Common faults to check in a mock test

These are the faults that come up most often on UK practical tests. Make sure your mock looks for each one.

  1. Observation at junctions: pulling out without looking properly in both directions.
  2. Mirrors before changing direction: turning or changing lanes without checking.
  3. Control when moving off: rolling back, stalling or pulling out unsafely.
  4. Steering: clipping kerbs or swinging wide on turns.
  5. Turning right at junctions: wrong position or misjudged gaps.
  6. Response to traffic lights: going on amber too late, or stopping past the line.
  7. Positioning: drifting across lanes, poor position on roundabouts.
  8. Response to road markings and signs: wrong lane, missed signs.
  9. Reverse parking control and observation.
  10. Use of speed: too slow for the road as well as too fast.
